We liked the area in SE Germany so much that we decided to do a second weekend there before all the snow melted. As we drove up, we noticed there was not much snow, but as we arrived in Reit im Winkl the snow was plowed about 4-6 feet high on the side of the road and maybe 1-2 feet on the houses. We took the kids snow tubing on a nearby slope until the German came and crowded us out. Plus, the sun was getting hot, I think it was approaching 70 here! We forgot the sunscren so we may have a nice raccoon tan. So far, it was a very pleasant quiet weekend.
Last week, we entertained our friend John for the night. We did a restaurant downtown after the modern art gallery. The art was awful, but the food was fine. After dinner, we split a few beers. A couple were old favorite, but a couple were new.
Oettinger Schwartzbier - Very creamy and tasty. Not a Guinness, but may be the closes we get.
Oettinger Alt - Tasted like its namesake, old. Not good. DNF (Did Not Finish)
While the family napped, I wandered around town, scouting places for dinner. I found a nice gasthaus with an open biergarten.
Wieninger Helle Draft - Good, decent taste.
